Interview with Jason Winstanley

Who are your favorite authors?
Bulgakov, Kafka, Bernhard, Orwell, Gogol...
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Fear.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Being afraid.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No but I once wrote a poem about a badger's skull when I was 8.
What is your writing process?
Complex. Research. Read. Panic. Think. Then write. Without food.
How do you approach cover design?
Do it myself. I have no money. I prefer covers that aren't too busy and have the author's name in massive letters. The emphasis should be on the work. The author, to some extent should remain anonymous.
What do you read for pleasure?
Erotic things.
Describe your desk
It's just my lap. A pile of notebooks on the floor.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Desperation.
Why do you write
Therapy. It stops me thinking. Because I can't stop.
