Interview with Suresh Nayar

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the IT capital of India, Bangalore, which was then home to a large number of educational institutions and historical monuments.

The several libraries, many established by the British almost a century ago, spread over the various residential areas of Bangalore, used to be my favourite destination to seek knowledge.

Being a student of history, it was but natural for me to seek out origins of the many ancient civilisations of India. As I read more and more about the civilisations, I realised that most of it wasn't published for mass consumption and therefore, most Indians were unaware of their ancient origins.

I felt it would be interesting to the reader, if a bit of fiction was thrown around the historical facts and that inspired me to write my first novel on ancient Tamil antiquity.
When did you first start writing?
My first novel was published in 2018, but I had begun writing this novel almost two years ago.

Of course, I have contributed to magazines both at school and college was the chief editor for the corporate magazines at various organisations I worked at.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It is a fictionalised account of an ancient land called Kumari Nadu, which was believed to have disappeared under a catclysmic deluge in 9000 BCE, similar to the various flood myths of civilisations across the world.
The story revolves around the incredible journey of an immortal Dravidian from Kumari Nadu, who walked the earth for over 11000 years, before he gave up his immortality for his beloved!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?

Moreover, the Smashwords author dashboard is a breeze to operate and one can publish their own book in a very short time.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are my most important measure of success. Letters from fans gives me immense joy and I enjoy the time I have reserved to respond to fan mail.
Interactions with fans have always given me inspiration to write more and write better!
What are you working on next?
The sequel to the "The Dravidian from Kumari Nadu" is in the works. I havent assigned a title to this book, though it will be the second book in the "Dravidian Series".
This book will take the travails of the Immortal Dravidian to a more detailed level and will introduce him and my readers to various ancient civilsations of the world.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I still do a bit of online marketing for my clients, when I am not indulging in my new found hobby - farming.

I am also involved in many environmental protection projects through an organisation near Bangalore, which focuses on reforestation and lake rejuvenation initiatives.

Otherwise, my pet German Shepherd - Shadow, keeps me quite busy all day!
