Interview with Sonya Felice Jenkins

Published 2015-04-25.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is it gives me a way to let my creativity flow. To release what I may be feeling at the moment, rewrite the dream from the night before, and to see how characters develop and/or evolve in the story.
What are you working on next?
I am working book 2 of Once In A Lifetime Love as well as developing plots and continued story lines for third book.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are. Dr Maya Angelou, Eric Jerome Dickey, Zane, Mary Morrison, Terry McMillian, Iyanla Vanzant and Victoria Christopher Murray.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I spend my time either watching my favorite tv shows, listening to music, reading, or sleeping. I need an outlet to help with writers' block and to recharge my batteries in order for me to create a great story.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My e-reading device of choice is Kindle but I'm old school, I really prefer hardcover/paperback books.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in high school.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
What motivated me to become an indie author was having the creative control over my stories and how I wanted my book to look.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I do remember the first story I've ever written.
What is your writing process?
I don't have a standard writing process. I just write what comes to me; either in a dream, something I've seen while out and about, and listening to other people's drama.
Describe your desk
The best way to describe my desk is that it is semi-organized and messy all at the same time.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Newark New Jersey. Grew up in the inner-city didn't really influence my writing per se, it did however, allow some of my life experience and/or the experience of other to give some of my characters some edge to them as well as redeeming qualities to them.
