Interview with Steven Billington

Who are your favorite authors?
Without question the first would be Shel Silverstein, have for many years now been an avid reader of his work. Amazes me that more people are not familiar with his work. After him to many to mention, Lately enjoyed Love Virtually by Daniel Glattauer.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
to write, actually begins in bed most days
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Cooking, after writing my next passion would definitely be cooking, or watching Masterchef or Hells Kitchen.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Mostly through words of mouth, introduction to other authors by friends and family.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote, and am still writing some 20 years later is Walter Whale, hopefully in the not to distant future I will release it.
What do you read for pleasure?
Poetry, poetry and more poetry.....did I mention Poetry?
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle or Kindle on tablet or smartphone

Mugs or tea, some half full, pens, scraps of paper, headphones, stop watch, telephone (off)
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Grew up in Cape Town South Africa, incredible city with every natural element you could hope for to inspire you as a writer.
When did you first start writing?
Started writing only after I had left senior school, had no interest in English prior to this.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The boy that could fly is something I have been working on for many years, he's no super hero, more of a clumsy teen going about his everyday life, with one exception, he can fly.....I suppose it speaks of me a lot, perhaps I have finally learnt how to truly fly without burning all those around me.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Just discovered how much red tape, how many struggle to make it in the industry so thought I would give it a go myself.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to see the smile on somebody else's face as they read my work, knowing I can assist others in lifting their mood even if for a short while. Contribute to their 'escape' as such.
What do your fans mean to you?
Are everything to me, but don't consider them to be fans per-say, more like an extended family.
What are you working on next?
Always have a few things on the go now, completing The Boy That Could Fly, Walter Whale, Cookbook for Guys....various
