Interview with Stella Starke

What is your e-reading device of choice?
I still enjoy the feel and smell of a real book. My house is filled with books I've collected over the years. Everything from DIY manuals to thrillers, and of course, Erotica. You can't even see the top of my nightstand through the piles of books on it.
But I have come to appreciate the convenience of e-books. I love having my reading material with me at all times; and I definitely love being able to read in bed with the lights off.
I do most of my reading on my iPhone, mostly because it's the one device I always have with me.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I'm new to epublishing, though I've been writing for years. So far I've only used facebook to market my books, but I'm starting to branch out into Pinterest and Tumblr. I'm a real newbie at Tumblr (I'd never even seen one until the other day), so it may take some time to figure that one out.
Everyone says I need to get on Twitter, so I'll probably do that soon too.
I don't think I'll start a blog until I have more books published, because blogs take so much time.
Describe your desk
I love my desk! It's an old, heavy, wood behemoth that my husband and I found at an auction years ago. (I love quality furniture that can be handed down from one generation to the next.) I have it placed in front of two windows in my office that overlook our backyard. It's the most peaceful place in the house.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in elementary school. I've always had an over active imagination and never outgrew it. I would write these little stories in my wide ruled notebooks and I thought they were masterpieces. As I grew older my stories got longer and the plots more complex.
I always have a story playing out in my head; characters talking to me, taking shape...
What's the story behind your latest book?
My book ideas really sneak up on me. Sometimes I'll be in the middle of writing something completely different when a new character will pop into my head and say, "Hey! Let me tell what happened to me!"
I don't even remember exactly where I got the idea for Revenge of the Nerd. I read a lot: books, magazines, blogs, etc. And I was reading something about particle accelerators and I got to thinking, 'hmmm, nerds are the new sexy.' That thought germinated for a few days until Alvin Price formed in my head and started talking to me.
Revenge of the Nerd is told from Brittney's POV, but I think one of the next shorts I write is going to be an account of the events from Alvin's perspective. Something to give him a chance to explain himself and why he put Brittney through all that.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I'm completely new to Smashword, but I hope it will be a huge part of my future success!
What are you working on next?
I'm going to continue with The Big Bang Series. Book 2 will show what happens after Brittney goes home from her weekend at Alvin's, how Eric reacts to her knowing she's been with another man (he doesn't know the half of it!), how she views him and her friends differently after waking up to the fact that they were bullies. It will show Brittney becoming the person she was always meant to be, a better person.

In the next week though I'll be publishing a fun Halloween short. Just a little treat for my readers.

There is a new character that's forming in my head, simmering and fleshing herself out. She's going to have a darker tale than the ones I've published up until now. She's going to be a damaged person who is able to help everyone but herself.
