Interview with Sunnie Day

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up as a military brat, my father was in the Air Force. We were fortunate to be stationed all over the US and overseas. I do believe visiting so many places and meeting all kinds of people gave me an open mind, influencing my writing for sure.
When did you first start writing?
I have always written poems or stories since I was a little girl. However, I put down the pen once I married and had children. I raised my children, became a nurse and I did not think about writing until about three years ago when suddenly I joined this writing site. I began to write once more and it poured out like a hard rain. That was about three years ago and I have not stopped since. I retired from nursing so now I am a full time creative writer and I finally feel I am doing what I should have been doing years ago.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is one that I co authored with my brother, God's Playbook. It is not listed here on Smashwords as it was published in my real name Kim Kruise Thompson. My brothers name is Kevin O'neil Kruise. Kevin approached me one day with a story idea and asked if I wanted to join him. I was thrilled. We are a year a part and for years since we were toddlers, we have sang together. We had not done something together in many years. We began to write, taking turns, adding to the story until the it was finished. We look back and know it wrote itself, being a very miraculous endeavor. We both are very strong in our faith and we wanted God's love to shine and inspire others. You can find it on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
As you know publishing paper back books is very costly. I have three paper books, but it is the digital age, so many are leaning that way. I like the fact that the stories can be short and to the point, not dragging on. When I first started writing the stories, the ideas came rather easily and I could publish rather quickly. I a finding that I am going back, editing some of my old stories and have the ease of doing this with a indie book.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Yes, Smashwords has been such a job to be a part of. I do believe it has helped tremendously in sharing my work. When one see's their book go premium, it is pretty exciting. I also love that some are being put in Libraries.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is to get a comment or email saying that a piece has touched someones heart. So many wonderful joys come from writing. A writer can release their soul, their heart, and watch this beautiful creation form before their eyes, all from one stroke of the pen.
What do your fans mean to you?
Having followers, readers, fans as you call them is a blessing. It is nice to know someone is reading your work. Some writers never publish their work and only write for their eyes only. When you have readers, I think it gives a writer a platform to make a positive difference in someones life. I do believe words carry life and once they are in the air, it is anyone's guess where they will land, touching another human being's life.
