Interview with Susan Fisher-Davis

What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social media is the way to go nowadays! I post on every page I can find relating to promotion on Facebook. I also use Twitter and Tsu. Word of mouth is certainly good for it too.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use my Android tablet for e-reading.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town in Maryland. In the Appalachian Mountains. I'm not sure the town influenced my writing at all. I do write about small towns, but watching cowboy movies with my dad on Saturdays is what made me fall in love with cowboys.
When did you first start writing?
I won a writing contest when I was in the sixth grade. I've always dreamed of writing.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Bringing the characters to life. I see them so well inside my head and they talk to me all the time. I love getting their stories out there.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love them. I love how they support me and have my back. They are an awesome bunch and I love everyone of them. I don't think of them as fans. To me, they are my friends.
What are you working on next?
I have a novella coming out in late December. As for right now, the story is called "A Cowboy for Christmas" but that could change. It's a great story and I can't wait to get it out there.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I read a lot of books by authors who are my friends.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It was the story I wrote in sixth grade. I wrote it about going to camp and how much fun I had. About the new friends I'd made there.
What is your writing process?
I just sit and type. I don't have anything written down. It just comes to me as I write. I can see it so clearly as I'm typing it. I have gotten up in the middle of the night to write something down, because I don't want to forget it, but other than that, I don't plan out any books.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Not the first story, but the book that made a huge impact on me was "Death Be Not Proud" by John Gunther. The story of him watching his seventeen year old son suffer with a brain tumor and then die, tore at my heart. It's a book I will never forget and I read it when I was in high school and that was a long time ago.
What do you read for pleasure?
I only read romance novels that have a HEA. I don't like cliffhangers at all.
