Interview with Ronnee-Lee Parks

When did you first start writing?
I have always been interested in writing and in the past wrote a couple of play for my high school and church. However, I first really started writing back in 2004 when I started The Wren. I had so much in my head, I just had to put it down on paper.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I wrote a story called Dragon and Pegasus. it was a story I told my boys, when I put them to bed and kept embellishing on. One day a friend suggested I write it down and so I did. Unfortunately, the story was lost when i took my computer in for repairs and the erased my hard drive. While the basic concept of the book is still buried back in my mind, I know that it would never be like the original because it was something I perfected through nights of story telling.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Just being able to read what I accomplished. I laugh and cry with my books and it is my goal that you would feel the same as you read. I want the characters to feel like you or someone you know next door, as normal every day people.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I know the title seems to have been done to death, but I wrote one called, My Best Friends Dad. I based it on a couple of experiences I had. Once, my best friend's dad and I went out dancing as we were the only single people in the group and as a youth I used to remember watching another good friend's dad work concrete and admired his body. Taking those two experiences, I ran with the book. I wanted a book about love and not smut and that is what I worked towards.
What are you working on next?
While finishing Best Friend's Dad, I literally ran into a followup book. I will be starting that idea soon after I finish some more re editing. It seems grammatical errs, are never ending!
What do your fans mean to you?
Well, right now my husband is my biggest fan, but I always like to hear what other people have to say because your opinion is what makes my writing better more often than not. It is what the readers think that truly counts.
Who are your favorite authors?
I love Jude Deveraux, James Patterson, Isaac Asimov, Candace Wade, Elie Wiesel and so many more. I have a varied and eclectic book case.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I work a construction business with my husband, ride horses and during the "season" help a friend run her Haunt, which is my favorite thing to do, next to ride horses and write books!
What is your writing process?
1. Sit down at the computer 2. take a deep breath and 3. let the fingers fly across the keyboard. I try and write what I am seeing play out in my head. Then I return and edit things such as repetitive words by using a thesaurus, watch for time structure errors and make sure that the story blends. Grammatical problems are something I correct continuously and probably, to be honest, correct and re-correct the same thing over and over, not realizing that I keep changing it back and forth.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I look for the ratings and read what other people think, then I read what the book is about and if the description captures me, then I read it.
