Interview with Terrance Zepke

Published 2015-12-09.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have lots of interests as you can tell by my many different book topics! I was born to travel and I am especially fond of adventure travel. Some of my favorite activities include hot-air ballooning over the Northern Serengeti, camping in the Himalayas, shark cage diving in South Africa, dog sledding in the Arctic, and a camel safari in Egypt.

I also love to participate in ghost investigations and my creepiest experience was being locked inside the Trans-Alleghany Luntatic Asylum overnight. Korners Folly was another very interesting experience.

I am an avid reader of many different genres so I read whenever I can. I also spend a lot of time researching my books and traveling as part of that research and also for book promotions/tours/interviews and just for fun.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read many different genres. One of my favorite is mystery/suspense. I also enjoy women's fiction, southern literature, detective stories, sci fi/thrillers, paranormal, memoirs, and travel books/essays.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love my kindle!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
That's a hard one. Unlike many writers, I enjoy the writing process. I really like taking an idea and then outlining the book and then writing it chapter by chapter. And then there is nothing like the feeling when you have finished the rough draft! I dislike the editing and production process but I love seeing the book in its final format whether it's a digital or print book. I've written about thirty books and am still thrilled when I hold a newly published book in my hands or see the ebook cover and metadata online for the first time.
Who are your favorite authors?
Thankfully, there are so many great writers in this world. Some of my favorite include Harlan Coben, Rhys Bowen, Alexandar McCall-Smith, Anne Rivers Siddons, Nelson DeMille, and Nancy Martin.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans (readers) are everything. If I write a great book and no one reads it then it is rather pointless. Also, as an avid reader I appreciate that it is a symbiotic relationship. Readers need authors or else they won't have anything to read. I am ever so grateful to be a writer and to have readers that enjoy my writing enough to support me emotionally and financially. Keep reading, please!
