Interview with A. K. Nord

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It was a two-page story about a frog. I was seven at the time.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
It took me to another world. I remember Shere Kahn kept me from sleeping until I got a stuffed black panther that just had to be named Bagheera.
How do you approach cover design?
Designing a cover was new to me. Photos couldn't even be considered for this story so I wasted a couple of months trying to draw them myself. I started watching how-tos on drawing on YouTube and ended up fancying one particular artist. I contacted him and asked for help. I'm glad I did.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I've used an iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy. I just recently bought an iPad Pro and I love the experience.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Marketing is a very confusing matter, which I have yet to learn.
Describe your desk
It's huge or all the clutter would fall off.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Who said I've grown up?
When did you first start writing?
The first straggly stories emerged in a notebook when I was 5. Many and long periods have since passed without writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Relations and how we perceive ourselves are part of the foundation. A growing wish for an ability to change things from a child's perspective; at the moment of a thought's inception. The wish emerged when I was around 11, and it never left the building.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The ability to create situations, worlds, creatures, and have them do what I want. Something that's inconceivable in the real world. Plus, I have the best of reasons to hang a Do Not Disturb sign on my door.
What are you working on next?
A supernatural thriller with aliens that has been using human bodies to survive for millennia.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Egg and bacon...
