Interview with JaKenya Lawrence

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Absolutely! My very first story was in high school English class. I was asked to write about a current event and I chose the homeless. My story showed a similarity to the desire of homeless people to simply be more than just homeless. I looked at where most homeless individuals lived in our city at the time and it was all around transportation. So I wrote about their desire to want to be someone and go somewhere outside of the normal everyday life.
What is your writing process?
Since I'm a non-fiction writer my process is pretty simple, I just write. I have a very good memory so things come to me quite often. My imagination isn't so bad either.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Well it's going to sound kind of cliche but the first story I ever read was in the book of Genesis. When I read it for the first time it just had me thinking of how one man could create all it said he created. How we are still using those things to date.
How do you approach cover design?
Ironically cover designs have been a long thought process for me. My first published book was easy because it was a picture of me. Whenever I think of designs I must have the title in mind first in order to think outside the box. I'm always thinking of something catchy or different.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Hmmm, not sure I have 5 favorites but they are generally all business books to date. These may change at some point.
1. Bible for obvious reasons 2. Think and Grow Rich 3. Secret to Success 4. The 10X Rule 5. Sell or Be Sold
All of these books have taught me a lot about life, myself and business. IF you ever get a chance read them and be amazed at what you'll learn.
What do you read for pleasure?
I'm big on personal development so anything that will help me improve my health, business and life in general I'm on it.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social Media has played a major part in my marketing techniques. However, I'm looking into more choices as we progress further
Describe your desk
My desk is organized and everything is in place. I can't stand working on a cluttered work station it clutters the mind.
When did you first start writing?
High School English class but my first published works was actually when I wrote for a local newspaper while in High School.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is actually an E-book which gives some steps to becoming a success in Network Marketing. I have been asked for several years to do something business wise but always steered away from it because of my own personal fears. However, when my sister brought it to my attention that I should consider it I decided it was time.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to get my thoughts out on paper and touch the lives of others. Seeing my name in print and attached to something that means something to me and knowing it may end up in someone's home or office as influence.
