Interview with Kelly Gray

When did the idea for this book begin?
I began talking about my dumps to my friend Mark Sorenson at Mission Viejo High School in 1975. We thought of creating the WBMA ( World Bowel Movement Association) back then. It was during baseball practice that we would go into detail about our daily dumps.
Why bowel Movements?
I had a Professor at Journalism School at San Diego State University once say that if you find a topic that everyone can relate to, write a clear and concise book, then it well sell. I think everyone can relate to the bowel movement and how it can literally change your outlook on any given day.
What is your first recollection of taking a poop?
I think it was when I had a turd slide down my pants and into my sock. I have been warped ever since.
How long have you been writing?
I started writing my first book, "The Bullpen Catcher", while living on my sailboat in San Diego during the Eighties. I am getting ready to publish this book as it is in final revision stage right now.
How did you write your book?
I kept a pen and a pad of paper on every toilet in my house for years. I could then jot down my thoughts and book ideas between wipes.
Do you have a preference of toilet paper?
I'd use bath towels if my wife would let me. I never seem to get the perfect wipe and sometimes end up with more poop on the paper than in the toilet.
Do you use an oval or round toilet bowl?
I go for the round. I find I need extreme cheek separation for the cleanest possible wipe. I deal with a lot of hair and dingle berries down there.
Do you have a favorite spot to take a dump?
You mean spot in my house or world? My main bath is my comfort zone and I love the dumps I produce when in Germany. Nothing like a beer and a Brat...
Have you ever shit your pants?
I have loose bowels, so it happens quite frequently. I just recently was walking into work for a long New year's Eve shift when it squirted out my anus, down my leg and completely soaked my undies. My wife has only recently encouraged me to wear undies. I had to ball up my undies and throw them away. PS There was no toilet paper in the stall as well.
Do you have a favorite TV Show
I will always be a Seinfeld fan. I can usually find some type of Seinfeldian observation on a daily basis. There is a lot of toilet references in the show as well. Kramer being constipated, George knowing where the best bathrooms were in the city, George taking his clothes off when taking a dump, claiming he likes to "Feel Unfettered".
