Interview with Karen Elise Wormack

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Ebooks are such a wonderful phenomenon. Although I believe hardcover books will always have their place in the hearts of society, ebooks are fantastic too. I discover new ebooks by recommendation from other people and searching on line. The creation of Smashwords has been a superior source for discovering new ebook and author talents!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, my mind is always thinking about what to write next! However, as I continue to market and promote The Adventures of Prissy and Missy to the global community, I understand the importance of personal presentation. This means always having appropriate clothing to wear, and looking fresh and professional at all times. I am also a creative designer and enjoy making much of my own wardrobe via traditional and serger sewing machines. I also spend time caring for my beloved family members Faith and Mon Mon, my medium haired Tabby for nearly sixteen years and Black Lab dog for nearly nine years respectively. Mon Mon is the reason Missy can't sleep at night in my first children's story introduced to world, The Adventures of Prissy and Missy, "Sleepwalk Affair". I also think about and remain in contact with family, friends, colleagues and friends of Prissy and Missy by phone, text, email, Facebook or personal rendezvous.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
As a child I always loved to learn. I presently carry in my wallet a childhood picture of my late brother Keith and I sitting on our brown plaid sectional sofa reading at the feet of my late and beloved mother Gloria, while she was stretched out reading the newspaper. Information being passed down verbally is important, but literacy helps free the mind to understand language, concepts, ideas and symbols. I don't remember the first story I ever wrote, but do remember writing my first poem in the second grade.
What is your writing process?
My writing process always begins with thoughts and an urging to write down those thoughts, speak them into my phone, or type them into my computer.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
As a child I can remember always wanting to be engaged in classroom participation. This meant, when the teacher asked a question, my hand would often be the first one raised. I was also taught to sit in the front row which I did even through my post graduate curriculum years.

The first story I remember reading in Elementary school was "Jack and Jill", then at home, various Dr. Seuss books. Books taught me to love to read and learn that which is new. I used to read everything and always raised my hands in class when the teacher called on students to read out loud. Children who lacked confidence in their literary skills were often forced to participate.
How do you approach cover design?
I make suggestions to our professional artistic team for the cover design and we communicate together for a wonderful outcome.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My favorite five books include the Holy Bible, my favorite book of all time because it nurtures my Mind, Spirit and Body. The Dictionary and Thesaurus are also included because they support comprehension, advanced vocabulary, homonyms, synonyms and antonyms. I also love the Encyclopedia and sold World Book Encyclopedia during the 1980's, doing so well, I won a partially expense paid trip to Chicago, Illinois, where World Book was headquartered at the Merchandise Mart and their Convention was held. Lastly, The Adventures of Prissy and Missy, a children's picture book series having not less than than fifteen exciting titles for children of all ages, because Prissy and Missy flourished right out of my fervent imagination and has become loved by people everywhere.
What do you read for pleasure?
Reading for pleasure includes Self Help Books of all varieties.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My e-reading device of choice is my laptop or tablet.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
My best Book Marketing Techniques, helping The Adventures of Prissy and Missy get into the hands of thousands of people is attributed to personal book signings held at various Shop Rite Grocery Stores for our Community Learning and Literacy Events. We have also held this theme at seven McDonald's restaurants throughout the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania Region. Elementary School Author visits have also proven to be high energy, memorable, educational, endearing and fun. Yes, at the grass roots level, and without the help of legacy publishers promoting me, regularly scheduled Learning and Literacy Events and Author Visits in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, have been indispensable for Prissy and Missy's continued success!
Describe your desk
My desk can be found anywhere I may be in the world. My desk is often my lap!
What is your favorite word?
My favorite word is F A N T A S T I C!
What is your least favorite word?
The word I dislike most which is used in everyday language, everyday thought and spoken 24 hours 7 days a week by the media is.......unbelievable, I dislike that word very much because I know it assaults the human Spirit and purposely keeps individuals in a perpetual state of fear, doubt and unbelief until they realize the subliminal power of that word.

A better word would be I N C R E D I B L E!
