Interview with Thomas Renwart

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up on the countryside, which has always been very important to my creative process. I always channel memories and the present, in everything I do. Memories are the most valuable assets of my existence.
When did you first start writing?
I have been writing for years, but I've never felt confident enough about the quality. But after years of practice, and after a year of no writing, I came back at it this January 2016 and I have been writing ever since. I think the break was very much needed.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I don't think it's a story story. It lingers somewhere between a dark comedy and a little spiritual poetry. It doesn't really have a storytelling point of view. I think the words I've written are words from my thoughts. We all have our thoughts that we review during the day. It could be my thoughts talking, but it could be anyone's thoughts really.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I don't support the regular book and publishing way of acting. Publishers mainly think about sales, but when a story just has to be told, there's no publishing in sight. Indie publishing makes it possible to publish without anyone or anything blocking your values, ideas and stories.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It's my first soon to be release - so it's a big big experience!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I just write down what my heart and my head tells me. Those things I could never ever say in public, to a person. These thoughts and memoires have to be written down. There's no other way of releasing them if they're not.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans read the stories. That's vital for the life and relevance of a writer. I don't write for a living, but to be able to have some food for thought written down. Honest thoughts. I do hope fans, readers, can relate to much and start a string of thoughts of their own.
What are you working on next?
I see this first release as a kick off, in which I will continue. Short memoires, 4 memoires per book. That's a beautiful formula in my eyes. It keeps it interesting and real.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm a fulltime student at the LUCA School of Arts, where I study Textiles Design. Textile's my passion! Followed by flowers and writing!
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Mainly by running down the lists of the ebook sections of bookstore, using the filters they have.
Describe your desk
A very creatively messy place... very covered. Thank God laptops can move wherever you want it to!
