Interview with Tiffany Dominguez

What are you working on next?
The companion book to The Eidolon. It will be Alec's story (Veronica's brother). I'm more excited to write this book than any others I've written. Alec's wit and humor balances out the darkness he unleashes as the founder of the Order of the Dragonfly. The stakes are bigger and Clank, Dr. Hoch and others return. The more encouragement I get, the faster I'll write!
Who are your favorite authors?
I adore:
Ilona Andrews' "Innkeeper" series
Cinda Williams Chima's "Seven Realms" series
Frederick Backman
Sarah's Durst's "Queen of Blood" series
Patrice Kindle's anything
Martine Leavitt's everything
Agatha Christie
Julie Daines
And so many more...
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The thought of reading a book while I slowly ride my stationary bike. It's my sacred hour!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I run a house flipping company with my husband, I'm a full-time realtor, raise four kids, snow ski, friendly debate at book club, my monthly writer's group of ten years, and baking & cooking.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I follow some excellent reviewers on goodreads. I believe writing a good review is a valuable talent!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes! I was eight years old and I wanted to be just like C.S. Lewis so I started writing another "Chronicles," of something or other.
What is your writing process?
Following an excellent class by Sarah Eden, I now write a character bible for each of my MCs. I answer questions about my character's motivation and background and what they really want. Then I sketch out the plot flow.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first one I read, but as a young teen I loved Agatha Christie. I used to save my babysitting money and go to the book store and buy them one by one until I had them all!
How do you approach cover design?
For my last cover, I used a site called the book cover designer and they were fantastic! I wanted something that would showcase the steampunk elements and hint at the fierce main character.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
"The Road," by Cormac McCarthy. This has to be one of the most brilliant books ever written. I cannot believe the depth of character, imagery, symbolism--it's stunning.
"A Man Called Ove," by Frederick Backman. Humorous and heart-warming.
Anything by Martine Leavitt. She inspires me in every way.
"Book of a Thousand Days" by Shannon Hale. How fairy-tale retelling should be done.
"These is my Words" by Nancy Turner. A female sharp-shooter on the American frontier. Brutal and moving.
What do you read for pleasure?
I'm a romantic softy and I love humor. But I also love anything really well done so I read all types of books. From non-fiction like Gawdat's "Solve for Happy," to children's picture books like, "I Want My Hat Back," to middle grade masterpieces like, "The Fourteenth Goldfish," and "Ungifted."
