Interview with Tim Hancock

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do actually, of course I do not remember it word for word but I do remember the just of it. I was in 6th grade and we had to write a story fro St. Patrick's day. what I wrote was the biggest bunch of BS you ever heard and at the end of the story I said "that's the biggest bunch of BS I ever heard. I got an A on the paper but I got in trouble for the BS part.
What is your writing process?
That is a very interesting question because I do not really have a process per say. I start writing with an idea in mind and then I let the characters take over and together we tell the story. This actually makes it fun for me because I do not know where the story is going to take me. The ending is just as much a surprise to me as it will be to the readers.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Stephen King's IT, Because it is the only book that sacred the hell out of me. Tom Clancy's Hunt for Red October. I am a Navy guy and it just got in my blood. Dante's Inferno. Because my mind really can be that twisted. Tom Clancy's Clear and Present Danger. because it shows just how too Damn easy it would be. Tim Hancock's A-21. I am being honest here I really cannot stop reading this book I must have read it 10 or 11 times.
What do you read for pleasure?
Since I began writing I do not read much for pleasure. I have read a couple of Patricia Cornwall book and some Clive Cussler over the last few years but I do not read much.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My computer, I have just about every e-reader app available Have the Kindle app and the nook app plus the free e-reader app from smashwords.
Describe your desk
Completely cluttered from one side to the other everything from music cds, book notes and even a can of pineapple chunks. I live at my desk.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in various parts of Oklahoma. I honestly think the only influence that has had on my writing is location.
When did you first start writing?
I have been writing since High School. I passed up two journalism scholarships to join the Navy. I wrote a lot in my free time.
What's the story behind your latest book?
In starting Caged Doves I wanted to make it personal for Mr. Parker. I played around with a lot of ways to do this and final came up with the kidnapping. The other interesting thing is it is shown from 3 different viewpoints. A style I will try to continue.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to get all four books out there while maintaining full control. having full control fo my work lets me decide what happens next. The only way to do that was to become an indie author.
