Interview with T.J Dipple

When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was 16. It was a full-length fantasy novel that took me four years to finish. As yet I have never tried to get it published, but I go back to it every now and then.
What is your latest book about?
My latest and debut novel is 'Reaper's Challenge'.

It is set in the city of Kavernhive, a city that is protected by powerful magic that stops people from being killed at night. It takes the form of glowing orange orbs that are known as The Haze. The magic of Kavernhive is about to be disrupted, a dark wizard has learned how to kill at night, breaking The Haze's magic.

It is up to The Blades, an elite group of guards to stop him before people start to panic that The Haze will no longer protect them.

The story is mostly from the point of view of Tren, the newest addition to The Blades. We follow them on their investigation that takes them into a bloody battle against assassins, their own people, and even gods.

It is a fast paced story with plenty of action. I really enjoyed writing it and am happy with the feedback I have received from my fans.

Reaper's Challenge has been released by my publishers on Smashwords and can be found here:
What are you working on now?
My latest work is entitled 'Fate's Test' and is the sequel to my debut novel 'Reaper's Challenge'. Fate's Test follows a group of guards called The Blades as they try to stop slavers who have taken the power gap left by the fall of the Assassin's Guild. Tren, the new God of Life, is learning his powers and growing stronger but The Blades' work is just beginning as they leave Kavernhive for Noman City where the Lord has been poisoned. The Blades must work with the guards of Noman City to uncover the secret behind the new Regent's rise to power and Bane must come to terms with the power of Chaos coursing through his body.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
For me it's finishing a piece of work. There is nothing better than being able to write 'The End' and know that you have accomplished something. Even if, as is sometimes the case, what you have written is not very good there is something good about being able to say that you have finished something. The next best thing is good feedback, I love reading reviews and hearing from fans. It shows that what I do is worth while.
What do your fans mean to you?
Just knowing that there are people out there who want to read my work is one of the main reasons I continue to write. I love hearing from people who have read my workm especially if they liked it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The stories I have published as an Indie Author have been published in science fiction and fantasy magazines. But once the magazine print has run out I found myself sitting with stories not doing anything and not anywhere where people could find them. So I decided to republish them, this meant that more people could see my work and I hope enjoy reading the stories that I write.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Since joining Smashwords my stories have been downloaded over 2000 times. Smashwords is a good resource as it moves my work through many different distributors that I would normally struggle to find the time to publish with.
Who are your favorite authors?
Currently I am a big fan of Brandon Sanderson, so far I don't think I've read anything of his that I didn't like. Other than that I enjoy epic fantasy like David Gemmel, David Eddings and Steven Erikson.
