Interview with J. J. Abraham

What is your writing process?
I like to write when I have a lot of sexual energy. I transform the energy into a creative process and words flow much better, and are much more descriptive! It helps even outside of sex scenes, channeling the sexual energy into other parts of a story helps the entire story a lot too.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Oh, I don't remember the first story. Maybe it was Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, as I seem to recall. The impact of the story? It took me to another world. I never left my home.
How do you approach cover design?
With an artistic eye. And I have an obsessive need for quality. I create the cover designs myself with artwork from great artists who designed the artwork for me.
Describe your desk
Both of my work desks are glass with silver metal frames. Uncluttered. Can't work in clutter as it takes away from the creative process and desire to work.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Grew up in Southern California and spent a lot of my childhood at the beach. Also spent a lot of time at libraries. I loved to read nature books (non-fiction) and this no doubt helped in the organic flow in story writing.
When did you first start writing?
Started writing about 5 or 6 years ago. I needed a creative outlet and discovered words could paint a world far better than a brush and paint.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I absolutely LOVE writing realistic scenes so the reader can taste, feel, smell and sense in every way, the story and its characters. All my stories have this, and the next? I have stories in my queue and ATM I'm polishing them to share in ebook format. I love relationship stories between man and intelligent non-human beings. :)
What motivated you to become an indie author?
A friend who is a prolific reader, bugged me to self-publish my short stories. At the time ebooks hadn't exploded in popularity yet, and we'd talked about self-publishing in dead tree format which meant costs up front, which I was hesitant to spend money on. Last year he prompted me again, but this time in ebook form. I had nothing to loose, so I took the plunge!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creative outlet. I wrote (and write) short stories with Paul Lucas for a long while, posting on forums at no cost for people to read and enjoy.
