We are about to release in ePub COLD BLOOD, by Katherine M. Lawrence. This is the first of the series Sword of the Taka Samurai, the story of Yamabuki's first mission as a young samurai. These events take place several months before the events in COLD SAKÉ.
We also have books by two other authors in historical fiction and science fiction coming out in the next few months.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
We're excited to bring new stories to readers — stories that avoid the usual tropes and clichés, stories of quality, well written, well edited, well presented. In the end, we feel our books themselves are our best marketing tool. We want to delight our readers so they know to look for more from us.
How do you approach cover design?
We try to develop covers that convey to the browsing book shopper the quality, themes, and feel of the book — beyond just genre conventions. We have in-house design ability, but we don't hesitate to go outside to great artists to achieve just the right aesthetic we're after. This process can tend to make the covers feel too precious to us. That's only natural because we love what we do. But ultimately it's the readers — the book shoppers — who decide what covers work best. We want people to be delighted if choose to pick up that book to find out more and perhaps buy the book.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Our best marketing so far seems to be word of mouth. Our books have received a few great reviews, but aside from serendipity, most readers seem to find our books because their friends or influencers recommended them.
