Interview with Tracy Sillato

When did you first start writing?
I always enjoyed writing from poems to music lyrics to stories. However my first published book was 'My Maasai Experience: Reflections.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Malta surrounded by family and friends. From a young age, books were my preference over toys. My parents used to spend hours reading us stories. As soon as I learnt how to write, I started dreaming of writing my own books.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing is putting our most intimate ideas and emotions visible to others. One can create stories based on fantasies, others can trigger discussions and make people think and analyse better a particular topic. Writing is about being free to express ourselves with others.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family and my loved ones.
Describe your desk
My desk is quite messy however I know exactly where each item is!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Dancing Salsa, Flamenco, sewing and obviously spend time with my loved ones
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans of my book would be those who are willing to bring change for a better world. A world were humanity is their priority.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote was when I was around 14 years old and it was about a ballerina who always wanted to perform on stage but unfortunately due to her body shape her dream was destroyed. She never gave up and thus she started dancing other styles. This story was just the first step for me to start writing about real life situations.
What are you working on next?
My aim is to focus on human rights. At the moment I am going through reading about human rights, children rights amongst other topics.
What is your writing process?
I research, jot down various ideas, highlight keywords and photograph anything that might inspire my story. In the end I go through all my resources and start writing.
