Interview with Michael Marlan

What are your five favorite books, and why?
I've been an avid and an eclectic reader since I discovered Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox on the shelf at the back of my grade three classroom. Sure, I've read War and Peace and Debbie does Dallas, er, maybe not that one, and they're all part of the preparing I've been doing somewhat subconsciously to write in our time the Travels with Loa series.

I'm now wanting to create a beautiful place that I'll call "COWA", an idyllic Community of Writers and Artists where we'll model the way it's going to be when our planet swings back to a Garden of Eden state as I believe is soon coming. That property will hopefully include many of the teachings of "Anastasia" as reported in Vladimir Megre's series of books titled "The Ringing Cedars of Russia." I highly recommend that series.
What do you read for pleasure?
Everything I read is for pleasure. If it wasn't pleasurable, I wouldn't be reading it! There's one exception, I do occasionally take a peek at an online news channel. That is sometimes informative, but seldom pleasurable...
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My first device was a Kindle and I've kept on upgrading the model. I've never tried any others so I have no idea if Kindle is superior or not, or even different or not, it's just familiar. But I must say, compared to holding a heavy book in my hand, finding a pair of reading glasses, and shedding some light on the tedious page turning, I LOVE my Kindle!
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I have submitted books through Balboa/Hayhouse, Amazon, and Smashwords. They take care of global distribution. I also have a website and a hugely talented friend who works her magic to get unique visitors to my site. On my site, visitors can buy and download all my e-books except the ancient one.
Describe your desk
My "desk" is the kitchen table in my mobile home office, a comfy 33 foot motor home I call "Loa". As I write this, on the table is a grungy keyboard, an enormous monitor, mouse on a pad, Mexican dermatologist's business card, scrap paper, calculator, box of Kleenex, cell phone, testosterone supplement, and an empty bowl that once contained my lunch of Kashi "Autumn Wheat" cold cereal with banana and almond milk. The milk was watered down because I haven't shopped lately and could only squeeze out dregs.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was supposed to have been born on a tropical island where all I had to do was hand someone a coconut to open for me while I peeled back a banana and watched the girls skinny dip in the lagoon. But someone switched me on the way down and I was dropped into a little house on the Saskatchewan, Canada prairie. That has enormously influenced my writing, it drove me south to beautiful warm Yuma, Arizona USA.
When did you first start writing?
I don't really remember, but my guess is that it was grade one or grade two as I was learning the alphabet. But I've always had the sensitive soul of a poet, so that's what I started with (rhymes really) I suppose about puberty. The first manuscript I'd grace with the title of "book" was written during a spiritual initiation in 1984. It has recently been re-named and is available at Balboa Hay House via a link on my website Look for "Travels with Loa - Marlan and Kira - in the beginning."
What's the story behind your latest book?
Travels with Loa is an endless series of Michael Marlan Law of Attraction fiction books. Practical success formulas taught by Rhonda Byrne and Abraham are revealed in an exciting never before tried fictional format. You'll become delightfully engaged in this series heart in mouth and on your sleeve as you travel across America with Michael in the motor home he fondly calls "Loa".

Based on people and stories that really happened, you'll intimately share with Michael the bigger than life adventures that Law of Attraction brings to him and to you: joy, pain, love, hope, rejection, romance, sex, open highways, dead end trails, even true stories of courageous people living out their dying with Susanne, a real life hospice nurse.

He's handsome, he's single, and he beckons pretty women, but Suzanne in Texas is Michael's true love. She keeps him at a distance after a one night stand in Loa, but it's Suzanne who inspires Michael and makes his stories endless. You're sure to fall in love with Michael and Suzanne as he travels and teaches in a fascinating never before done way: Law of Attraction, Abraham, Success, Life after Death, and The Way to Immortality.

What motivated you to become an indie author?
The worst thing I could be accused of is plagiarism, I've always been driven to unique creativity. So, if "Indie" means "independent" I guess you have your answer. And, it takes me about two weeks to turn my manuscripts into e-books on virtual shelves all over the world. If I went to a traditional publisher that time frame could stretch into many months, and I'd most likely need to have an agent instead of doing things myself, the way I like to do things. Yeah, I guess you could me a natural born Indien.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
All I want to do is write! Smashwords takes over stocking global virtual shelves with Travels with Loa books so I don't have to run around doing that myself. We self-publishing Indiens need people like those at Smashwords, it's symbiotic. Thank-you guys and gals for what you do. Michael Marlan
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is writing. I love the process of co-creating fiction when Muse is high, keyboard's thrumming, and my book characters take over and write the story themselves. How is it for you?

Suzanne and I thank you for reading this interview with Michael Marlan, one of the authors of the Travels with Loa endless series of visionary metaphysical fiction books. Keep up to date with us on our website
What do your fans mean to you?
Next to Suzanne and my co-writers, faithful readers of my Travels with Loa series of books are everything to me. Yes, I do write for the sheer joy of creative expression. But I was born with a Leo ego and a sense of 'mission', so knowing that there are others reading and enjoying (and hopefully learning from) my books is very important to me. Michael Marlan
What are you working on next?
I fully intend for my Travels with Loa series to be endless. The next book in the series is always happening on my hard-drive.
