Interview with Thelma Spencer

What are you working on next?
I'm currently working on a children's book. My hopes are to help encourage young reading.
Who are your favorite authors?
One of my most favorite authors is Doctor Sues. Another author that I absolutely enjoy is Shel Silverstein book A Light in the Attic. He had wrote some of the most detailed and imaginative poems that I had ever read. His poetry had inspired me to do my own poetry as a kid.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing I spend a lot of time with my family and at motorcycle charity events. I enjoy supporting the Cancer and the MDA events the most. Those events hit home with me.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
As funny as it sounds, I really don't read. As a kid I hated to read, I had read about five books between the time I started reading till I was about twenty eight years old. Now I might read about one or two books a month. I would have to say that I discover all of the eBooks I read through Amazon though.
What is your writing process?
I really don't have a writing process. I just write what I'm thinking when I can. Most of the time I will jot it down on a piece of paper of something handy and go back later to put it into my computer. There has been many times when I had come up with the words I want and later forget it cause I have no way of writing it down.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first story I had read but as a young child I remember reading the poems of A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein. Everyday I would read a different one. Even today I still enjoy reading them.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I cant say that I have one of choice but I enjoy using the Kindle. This is the only one I have ever used.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in small towns around Illinois. We moved around a lot. Most of my life we lived in the country though, so I guess it influenced me cause I had a lot of time to explore nature in a sense.
When did you first start writing?
Oh wow, I started when I was just a young teen. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of my writings over those years. It wasn't till I was in my early twenty's that I really started keeping a portfolio of my writings. I never thought at that time it would be for a published book, but for those after me to be able to experience the life I lived.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Well over the years I had experienced good and bad times in my life. Those times were as bad as loosing all the things in my life that meant the most to me, to as good as learning that life is only what you make of it. If anyone has ever experienced the feeling of loosing it all and later finding that specific time in their life when it made since as to why it happened the way it did .Well, then they to have found a path that has brought them the true meaning of life, because without those experience they would have possibly failed in life. That's that past that I took. In my book I share some of those experiences and bring them real life experiances to my readers.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
creating memories with my writings.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are the ones that relate to each poem I write. They are the connection to the memories created in my book. I enjoy knowing that my experiences of the past can be memories for others as well.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
What motivates me the most is my family and the memories we share. Each day is a new journey in life and creates a new poem. When I open my eyes I think of what the good lord might have in store for me and how I can create a new poem of it. I love being able to create a poem from a single days enjoyment..
