Interview with DJ Larkin

What are you working on next?
I'm working on book 2 of the Vacant Hearts series, plus another book to be released after that series is completed
Who are your favorite authors?
JK Rowling, Stephen King, and Clive Cussler to name a few.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My wife and kids.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Being a taxi for my kids, martial arts, and some photography.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually, I know what I'm looking for. Sometimes I'll browse a section and see what catches my eye.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I was in the first grade and it was a four page book about bunnies meeting dinosaurs. Fortunately for the bunnies, they were plant eating dinosaurs.
What is your writing process?
I start out with an idea, which I write down. Once I have an idea, I then work on an outline which I use as a guide to write the story. The outline is only a guide for me. I may follow it, or I may diverge from it depending on where the story takes me.
How do you approach cover design?
I am not an artist, but I can make my way around photoshop. I tend to try to pluck a scene from my book to use on the cover. Once I have an idea, I will contact some cover designers to see if they can make my vision happen.
What do you read for pleasure?
Biographies on Alexander the Great, Stephen King and any other books that strike my fancy.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My iPhone is the primary e-reader for me followed by my iPad.
Describe your desk
My desk is my bed. I don't have an office to work from, so I write primarily after the kids have gone to bed. I also write during my breaks at my "real" job and while at my daughter's gymnastics practices.
