Interview with Aaron Avari

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small city named Dothan Alabama. Dothan can feel like a box in that new things don't come in very often and new things don't come out. I was forced to think outside of that box or I would suffocate.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing poetry when I was about 10 or 11 it then moved to short stories.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I didn't want to go through the process of submitting my book and waiting for a decision from someone else regarding whether or not my book should be read by the public.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I am new to Smashwords. I am still waiting to see
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to write my thoughts and ideas down. I like the idea of being able to allow my thoughts to flow freely from my mind onto paper. When I write something down, I feel like it gets trapped there on the paper. If something is bothering me or I can't stop thinking about it. I just write it down and it gets filed away in the back of my mind.
What do your fans mean to you?
Well I don't have many fans at the moment, but the few I have mean everything to me
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on the second book in the Darkness series and I am working on a new horror
Who are your favorite authors?
Steven King is my favorite author, Edgar Allan Poe is another
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Sun light, sitting in bed all day makes me tired mentally

Chasing children around. I have 3 of my own and 4 that just moved in with me

I search for books on sale
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was about a girl that no one could see. She wasn't a ghost or invisible she just felt that way
What is your writing process?
I write a book from beginning straight through, occasionally I will go back and change things here and there to make the story connect.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes, the first story I ever read was a fantasy and it made me want to do magic, turn into a vampire or a mermaid. Become a shape shifter more or less
How do you approach cover design?
I describe the image I see in my mind to the artist. I suck at drawing and art period so I paint a picture of words for them to interpret
What do you read for pleasure?
Nonfiction. I need something real to keep my grounded here on earth, I have enough fiction and fantasy going on in my head I don't need anyone else's in there
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Right now I have an iPad, I don't honestly have a preference
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Still working out what is the most effective for me
