Interview with Uduak Ita Edet

When did you first start writing?
I developed a knack for writing during my early teenage years. I used to write short stories and my school mates loved reading them. As they passed the books from one person to the other, It deepened my interest in writing. It was so encouraging to see them read my handwritten stories and this in turn inspired me to write further.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The book is centered around the realities of motherhood. It highlights different coping strategies that can be adopted by young mothers to make life easier.
what motivated you to write this book
My initial experience as a new mum motivated me to write this book. I realized that a lot of mothers in my society are not very vocal about their experiences and this led me to create a website www.wemothers.org. where women can learn and share experiences. Good morning Mrs. Perfect is a product of this process and I believe the book will help mothers realize the enormous influence that we have first on ourselves, secondly on other mothers and thirdly on our children.
What lessons would you like your readers to take away from this book
The major lesson is to know that mothers share similar joys, challenges and struggles. I believe we will learn to be less judgmental of each other if we can understand this.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Having someone who has read my book recount what they enjoyed most about it . It is such an amazing and fulfilling experience
What is your writing process?
While writing stories, I think through my characters for several weeks and even months, outline the plot and then I eventually start writing. I also gather inspiration from things that happen around me and stories I hear
What are you working on next?
I am wrapping up a fiction novel on domestic violence.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to sing and read books from other authors. I read a lot of motivational and academic materials and I also take part in a lot of volunteer work.
Why did you opt for e publishing
I chose this option because e-publishing is about the fastest way to publish a book
What are your five favorite books?
1. The Assignment
2. How to Deal With Difficult People
3.The Mafia Manager
4.Where vultures feast
5. The Jury
Is your book strictly for mothers alone?
No, everyone who appreciates the role of a mother will enjoy this book. Also potential parents have a lot to gain from it so I would encourage young ladies and men to read it as well.
