What do you read for pleasure?
Oh, I read a huge variety! Mostly fiction, but ranging from children's adventure novels to adult fantasy and thrillers. I'm a big fan of Neil Gaiman, Dianna Wynne Jones, Dorothy L Sayers and Chris Brookmyre among others. When I find an author I like, I tend to try and find their entire back catalogue, which can lead to groaning bookshelves at times...
Describe your desk
A mess. Currently within knocking-over range are a bud vase, a cup of coffee, a stack of unfiled paperword and an overflowing pencil pot.
When did you first start writing?
I suppose I've been writing stories ever since I learned to write. It's a bit of a bad habit. There are always scraps of ideas around the place, on the computer on on bits of paper. They'll all come to something, one day.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Cocoa Fiends is a book about escaping, changing and developing. It's about finding yourself and finding out what you are really like: something that's difficult for most of us. It does contain supernatural elements, as this is often a good way to get a difficult concept accross.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Losing myself. I can lose track of hours and days. I also love to see where the characters are going to take me next.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on a sort of sequel to Cocoa Fiends. I say sort of sequel because it's set in the same world but the characters are not quite the same ones that appear in Cocoa. Mind you, you never know... They may barge in yet!
