Interview with V. E. Bystry

Published 2013-12-25.
When did you first start writing?
I have been writing ever since I learned how to read or pick up a pen and paper. When I was much younger, I would write and draw out my own comic books about a super rabbit if I remember correctly. I have been seriously writing with the intent of getting published since my junior year in high school. My teachers were and still are a huge motivation. I'm not sure I would be doing this without their influence.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The biggest thing for me is hearing how much people enjoy my stories. There are so many that if I could write every minute of every day, I'd have fifty novels a year! The fact that my imagination and creativity can bring joy and excitement to others, that is what makes it all worth while to me.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. Absolutely everything. They are the driving force which keeps me going. If I could talk to every single one and thank them personally, I would. Just hearing that a story of mine made them smile, cringe in fear, or shed a tear. That is the best feeling in the world.
What are you working on next?
I currently have three novels in the works. I find it hard to focus on one, and am often bouncing around from the three adding a few thousand words each every other day. Some day soon my first full length novel will be released, titled SPIAR.
Who are your favorite authors?
When I was younger, I read a lot of R. L. Stine, John Bellairs, and of course J. K. Rowling. Brian Jacques also comes to mind, the Redwall series. Young adulthood and on has been Stephen King, R. A. Salvatore, Chuck Palahniuk, with a few dashes of Dean Koontz and John Grisham.
