Interview with Vincent Samartinean

Published 2015-11-23.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Hunger
Who are your favorite authors?
Kurt Vonnegut, Robert Frost, Mihai Eminescu
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Daydreaming, working, tramping (hiking)
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Online
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was "Bedtime Story", from "Life, Death and Laughter". I wrote it on an older cell phone, inputting it through its T9 system (press 2 three times for C, etc...). it took a while. :)
What is your writing process?
I write when I'm inspired (usually when unhappy...so I haven't written much lately :). There's usually no plan, just an idea. I run with it and let it take me where it will.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No. It was either a children's story or Bible story when I was very young.
How do you approach cover design?
I make it original, from photos of nature I've taken.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town, set in a beautiful place. Mountains, forests, rivers, fields...the works. When you grow up amidst beauty, you can't help but incorporate it in your writing. (in your life, in general).
When did you first start writing?
I started writing poems in high school, during math class.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being an introvert, it allows me the opportunity to show others that I'm actually more than they see or think I am. That, and the pleasure and power of creation.
