Interview with Victoria M Robinson

When did you first start writing?
I first discovered my passion for writing when I was 15. Tragically a young friend of my families died and poetry seemed to be the only way I could soothe my soul. From that point on wards my love of writing grew.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to express myself and explore the dark and hidden corners of my mind without being judged (on a personal level at least!)
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean everything. Without them this would all be pointless!
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on 2 projects. One is a Suspense thriller involving a close group of friends who are trying to survive the apocalypse against all the odds. This book has allowed me to explore human nature in a way I have never been able to before. I have discovered new things about myself and I see the world in a very different way than when I first started Don't Rock The Boat.

I am also working on a children's book call Lily VS Willie: A Christmas Adventure, with the help of my two wonderful daughters who have both jumped in head first with the greatest enthusiasm.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have so many but among them are Karin Slaughter, James Patterson, Lee Child and Tess Gerritsen.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With 4 children and a full time job I don't get much time to myself but I do enjoy reading and cooking.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
To be honest I'm not much of a morning person but the fear of the kids missing the school bus because I'm running late is usually enough to get me up!
Describe your desk
I use a laptop so I am happy to say that my desk can range from the top of a snowy mountain to a warm sunny beach. It doesn't get any better :-)
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Some of the first books I read were the famous five collection. I also enjoyed the likes of the Faraway Tree, The lion, the witch and the wardrobe and Swallows and Amazons. All these books inspired me and unleashed the power of my imagination. The first adult book I ever read was The dwelling place by Catherine Cookson. I read that book so many times because it allowed me to feel as if I were really there. I was about 11 at the time and it was the first time I had ever experience this feeling.
How do you approach cover design?
I just jump right in there and go with the flow. I usually end up with a dozen different covers all in very different styles and then I take a vote. With Above The Limit there were 2 clear winners so I developed a new cover that incorporated the 2.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read almost everyday to my children and I thoroughly enjoy it. we read a lot on Enid Blyton stories. I love to share the memories of my childhood with my own girls. I also like to read books by other indie authors and I make a point of always leaving a review when I do. Its a tough business to crack into so I try to help in any way I can and appreciate it when other do the same for me.
