Interview with Savannah Saci

What motivated you to become an indie author?
Sometimes stories just seem to pour out of me. My friends liked them and encouraged me to publish them. So I did some research on self publishing and here I am.

Often my characters have a mind of their own and take me in a completely unexpected direction.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I hit the publish button. Then the first positive comment. It makes all the editing and revising worth it.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean a great deal to me, a lot of my fans have become friends one way or another. They offer great feedback, and are eager to edit the next chapters for me so they can see what happens next. I am in regular correspondence with many of them.

Actually, my real life friends, and even my husband rarely read my writings. It is mostly fans I have become friends with.
What are you working on next?
Great question. I have a series that needs to be finished, so I can add it to a book. I would also like to put together some of my poetry, and I have several standalone stories that can be made a book of short stories. I still have not decided which to do next.
Who are your favorite authors?
Well, my favorite authors don't write in my genre. Mostly fantasy and mystery. George R. R. Martin is by far my favorite, I was a fan way before the HBO series came out. I took a couple days off work to read "A Dance with Dragons". Brandon Sanderson, Orson Scott Card are both favorites. I have read almost all of Orson Scott Cards books. I have been reading Kiera Cass and Ally Condie, and have been enjoying those books.

I have been downloading audio books from my library, and am listening to books constantly. Sure makes commuting and driving places less of a chore.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Mostly I listen to books. I find books I have read and liked, and look on amazon and good reads for recommendations based on that. I also get recommendations from my friends.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was quite a surprise. It was driving me crazy, the story in my head. I couldn't sleep until I got it down.
What is your writing process?
Well I have been trying to do more planning and an outline of the story and timelines, however as I mentioned before, often my characters have different ideas of where they want to end up.
How do you approach cover design?
I rely on my photoshop wizard for that. He is a miracle worker, I would not have the slightest idea how to create the art.

He is Mr. Leash
What are your five favorite books, and why?
So many books. "Catch-22" by Joseph Heller has been a favorite most of my life. "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" series, by Douglas Adams. "A Song of Fire and Ice" series by George R.R. Martin, and of course Harry Potter.

If you count all the books in the series's that is way more then 5 :)
Describe your desk
My desk... good luck finding it. I don't actually write there very often. I mostly do crafts there. I am glad laptops are portable, I have written in Starbucks, as a passenger in a car, and at a hospital. So I guess in a away my writing desk is very portable.
