Interview with Wayne Lemmons

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Kentucky, but have become a Florida transplanted native. I always believed that I could write more easily in the sunshine, but had no idea how true it was!
When did you first start writing?
I was nine, or so, and the first story I ever penned was both incredibly violent and filled with cursing. I've calmed a bit since then.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The Dark Roads was a complete accident that started its life as a short story. I thought it would hit maybe ten or fifteen pages. It grew to 260 before I knew what was happening.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It's that moment when you realize that you've been at your laptop for eleven hours and actually think that reality is the story, not the book. It's beautiful.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. Without fans, I'd just be sitting around telling myself random stories and going crazy.
What are you working on next?
Not This Thursday is likely my next book to be published. It's a detective novel about a man who has no idea who he is upon waking every morning. It's been fun so far!
Who are your favorite authors?
King, Koontz, Kilborn, Konrath, Ketchum... and Crouch. I love all of the K's and a C or two.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The need to continue eating and having a bed.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually I listen to other readers or check out the categories. If it looks good, I give it a shot.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Scuba and reading. I could do both at the same time with the proper equipment, I think. Buy some books so that I can afford such luxuries.
