Interview with William Bebb

Published 2014-01-15.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
*Blushing in embarrassment because I've never read one. Oh, I did actually once download a fairly decent short story I found on Amazon that was free. FREE is awesome, that's why a few of mine are listed as FREE.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I drive a car to and from work. Usually, I wear a seatbelt because my car makes an annoying dinging noise until I put it on. I enjoy watching old TV shows and very few new ones. Favorites old shows include: Little House on the Prairie, Columbo, Green Acres, Hogan's Heroes and other odd choices. I also spend time trying to be a decent father. My dog's are named Boris and Lady and I try to take them on a 2 mile walk every night. I also like cheese quite a bit.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
(chortle) Yep, I remember. I was maybe 10 years old and it was absolutely horrible and cliche riddled but fun to write and when I showed it to my dad he only spit on me in disgust for a few hours. jk about the spitting.
What is your writing process?
I beat savagely on my keyboard while screaming ARRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Not the first story but one of the earliest was William Golding's Lord of the flies. It was a splash of reality for me that people can be extremely and relatively pointlessly violent.
How do you approach cover design?
I don't. I ask my designer to come up with something totally awesome and then he sometimes does a fairly good job of making something that doesn't suck.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
FREE FREE FREE! If you put your heart and soul into a free book and try your very best it shows. Valley of Death Zombie Trailer Park may have a horrible title but it was my first novel and FREE. It's sort of like a very long taste of my writing. If people find it yummy they may then invest a few dollars on other tales I have written.
Describe your desk
Cluttered nightmare of scented candles (Fresh linen) a plethora of prescription bottles, a 40 inch tall zombie figure that I call Fred stands on the corner of my desk and smiles at me.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Some people might say MONEY!!! Selling stories is awesome but my greatest joy is getting a nice email or review about my stories.
What do your fans mean to you?
Next to my son and daughter and my dogs they mean probably more than I can express without sounding sappy. I'm not sure if the last sentence made any sense, but I'm going with it.
Who are your favorite authors?
J.R.R. Tolkein, the early works of Stephen King and Koontz, Thomas Harris author of many disturbing tales, and Dr. Seuss.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Rent payments, car payments, the desire to eat food, and the bedbugs feasting on my naked body. :-p
