Interview with Lilliet Garrison

What are you working on next?
A book for seekers that was written by Charles H. Spurgeon. I condensed the book and edited the old English so it is easier to read for today's readers. This also gets younger readers familiar with powerful preachers from yesterday.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I enjoy learning and deepening my walk with Christ. Writing involves research, which allows me to dig deeper into topics that interest me and I can learn at a faster pace. Also I become more familiar with Scriptures as I back up my writing with God's Word.
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't believe I have fans, but those who read my books are searching for meaning, wisdom, and truth. If they are hungry and want to find real answers to their emptiness, then my books will lead them in the right direction.
Who are your favorite authors?
Many faithful Christian authors who know of the power of the Holy Spirit.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Sometimes reading...but usually I am working on a book.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
On the internet and Christian t.v.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was a longer book on Godly Wisdom.
How do you approach cover design?
I go for bold, attention getting covers. I design my own covers and find the learning process creative. I like design, and book covers are just another thing to design.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The joy of the Lord makes one grateful for each new day. Serving the Lord and reaping the fruit that comes from it, gives a person purpose and passion. I don't find it difficult to find either purpose or passion.
What do you read for pleasure?
I mostly read non-fiction. I read to learn and grow. If I'm looking for entertainment, I'll turn to a movie.
What is your writing process?
I am careful to spend only about 10-15 minutes on email or social media and I don't engage much in social media. It kills your time and I don't find it very productive. The most productive authors are those who use their time well. Be in a quiet place and stay on task. Do it every day...every day...every day. That's my formula. Avoid frivolous living and pursuits and do the important things in life.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Writing another book. The more books you write, the greater your chance of being noticed.
Describe your desk
Orderly, but full. I have everything in its place.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the military. I lived in Hawaii when I was 5 yrs old and lived in many places. Then I married a man who became an Army Chaplain and we moved around for 30 years. After 4 years or retirement we are getting ready to move again.
When did you first start writing?
At the age of 54.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It permits readers to find my books for free.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
If you don't have a platform it will be hard to find a publisher. Indie lets you take control of your work and your time. I also like learning all the methods myself and being self-sufficient in the publishing process.
