Interview with Jennifer David (Writings of a Mrs)

What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Most definitely blogging and social networking. Connecting with a community that I care about and that I am invested in!
Describe your desk
My desk would be my desk top. My Mac Book Air that I do all of my writing on, well maybe not all, I also use a note pad. I prefer to cuddle up on my couch with my coffee and my cat to write.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I decided to start up a blog to help myself commit to writing and daily expression. I quickly ran out of ideas on what to write about. I noticed through Wordpress that it was national poetry month and many people were posting poems. I decided to post the only poem I had ever wrote up until that point and it had great reviews and people were so encouraging. I got the poetry bug and it has been flowing out of me ever since!
This book is a compilation of poetry that bloomed from the start of my blog.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
In all reality, quite honestly it just seemed the easiest and fastest way to go about getting things done.
I have a crazy busy life. No time for submissions and letter writing, plus I like to take control of my own life!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The ability to express thoughts, ideas and emotions that I don't think I otherwise would have. I find it quite challenging to collectively express myself orally.
Above all the amount of readers that have actually enjoyed reading what I write through my blog and that take the time to comment and let me know how my poetry makes them feel.
What do your fans mean to you?
My 'fans', sheesh, I don't like that term, I prefer community. My community is everything to me. I wish I had more time in the day to communicate with and build relationships with all of my readers. The fact that anyone is interested in what I have to say and that people take time out of their days to read me, will always be astounding to me.
My 'fans' are my friends. We share a connection, an understanding.
What are you working on next?
Poetry, weekly if not daily.
Then to find the discipline required to actually sit down and write my book.
What is your writing process?
When it comes to poetry and blogging I prefer to be alone, relaxed and comfy with a hot drink, preferably in the morning. Sometimes I will read other blog posts to get my creative juices flowing. Then I let my mind wander to get inspired to write. I very rarely sit down and force it. If it happens it happens, if not it will happen at the next time.As for writing my book, I'm still trying to figure that out!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life! Living! The universe! Nature! Existence!
Really the gift of life. I want to live it to the fullest.
And of course to be cliche, my family!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With my family.
I enjoy social networking, reading, writing and I LOVE movies, well I should say I love going to the theater to see movies. I could go weekly. It may just be the buttery popcorn that I love but let's just say it's the movies.
I really enjoy a great meal and going to restaurants and having great conversations over a glass of wine, coffee or tea with friends.
I love the sun and the beach.
I really enjoy traveling, by car. I love driving.
