Interview with Tabitha Star Forman

What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson. I fell in love with Lisbeth Salander from the first page and the way she developed through the entire series; whether it be her romantic interest in Blomkvist, her idea of revenge for the man who brutalized her, or maybe it's something I haven't caught yet. I love his work and I will continue to read it over and over again.
The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward. Even though vampires aren't a huge thing anymore I've been reading her books for years and I love how each character is so relatable in one way or another, especially Rhage with his humor. Besides, I'm a sucker for romance stories.
Anything by Edgar Allan Poe or H. P. Lovecraft. They taught me as a child that there is always some sort of evil in the world.
Harry Potter. Again, I grew up on it and fell in love with the characters.
Game of Thrones series by George R. R. Martin. I've fallen in love with so many of the characters and their development throughout my journey through his books. The show is amazing but doesn't even begin to compare.
What do you read for pleasure?
Romance. Horror. Mystery.
There's really no set book or genre I read for pleasure because my mood can change so sporadically. The day I was given my kindle was the best day ever because I could carry around more than one book to read at any given time.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My awesome black Kindle :)
Describe your desk
What desk? Most of the time I'm in my bed with my laptop on my lap with any handwritten notes I write throughout the day sitting next to me as I type. There's usually a movie or music in the background because I can get annoyed with the endless typing sound of the keyboard.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Illinois. Saw my dad every other weekend until he went to jail. My mom worked three jobs so I grew up with my babysitter Donna. There weren't many kinds in my area so I didn't have many friends. I started writing when I was seven or eight just to have something to do. It was something I grew to love and have become very passionate about. Things have changed over the years as far as friends and family go but my passion and love for writing hasn't changed at all.
When did you first start writing?
Way back in grade school. I think I was seven when I started.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Well, it originally started as a way to help me escape reality, to help me create friends and enemies who can keep me company. Now that I somewhat frequently put my stories online and I get feedback on how much they love my story, can relate to the characters, or even that it's inspired them to write something. That's what means the most to me and that's what makes me happy.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean the world to me. Without my fans and loyal readers I wouldn't be where I am right now. A lot of them have encouraged me to write more, explore new things, and I'm very grateful for that.
What are you working on next?
A more modern romance/thriller. It's still in the outlining process.
Who are your favorite authors?
Oh geez...
Stieg Larsson, Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, J.R. Ward, J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, Poppy Z Brite, Anne Rice, Charles Dickens, Charlotte Bronte, Sylvia Plath, George R.R. Martin, John Green... I find new authors to love almost every day. The list is endless.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I work a lot. When I'm not working I spend time with my fiancé. I also love to play World of Warcraft, Skyrim, Zelda, Diablo 3, Assassins Creed, or any other game that strikes my fancy at the moment, watch movies, listen to music, spend time with my friends and family. I'm always thinking about my stories though.
