An array of pens, pencils, paints and inks and of course my trusted drawing board!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up on a Scottish Croft in rural Scotland, which encouraged me to be inspired by nature and the things that surround me. I take influences from everyday and ordinary life and give them a quirky twist.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Chasing Butterflies is my newest story and is inspired by a childhood memory and chasing your dreams. It centres around a free spirited, very determined little girl who has one goal in mind, to catch a butterfly. It is currently being crowdfunded on unbound.com.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I felt my stories deserved to be told just as much as any other. It is so hard to get your work noticed with traditional publishers in a saturated market. So I have taken my books into my own hands!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The freedom to create my own worlds and characters and bring something unique and different to my readers.
What do your fans mean to you?
They are amazing and many have supported me from the start of my artistic and literary journey and all through the publication of my first book. They keep asking me for a second which I am working on at the moment. They encourage me to create my best work and create unique and wonderful books for them to appreciate.
Who are your favorite authors?
Oliver Jeffers, David Roberts, Roald Dahl, Maurice Sendak, Edward Gorey. I could go on...
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Walking my dog, Wilson, driving around in my sunny yellow VW Beetle and randomly I really love hula hooping!
How do you approach cover design?
I am primarily an illustrator and designer so I create all my cover artworks myself.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love fairytale and fantasy books. At the moment I am really enjoying Cassandra Clare and one of my favourite authors is Maria Snyder.
