Smashwords Adds Integration for Stanza, Optimizes for iPhone

Smashwords Books Now Readable on Stanza

Los Gatos, Calif., December 2, 2008 -- Smashwords, a publisher of ebooks from independent authors, today introduced full integration with the popular Stanza ebook reader.

Stanza is used by over 500,000 people to read electronic books (ebooks) on their iPhone and iPOD Touch devices. Stanza users can now easily access the complete Smashwords catalog from their iPhone or iPod Touch, download book samples and free books, access their personal Smashwords library, and even download full books they've purchased online at

For independent (self-published) authors, there's never been a better time to publish ebooks on Smashwords. Authors simply upload their manuscripts as Microsoft Word files, and then Smashwords automatically converts the book into multiple DRM-free ebook formats, such as .epub, .lrf, .pdf, .mobi, .pdb, .rtf and .txt. Authors set the price of their books and determine the sampling percentage, and receive 85% of all net sales proceeds. Smashwords offers authors a wide range of free marketing tools to help them promote and sell their ebooks.

Separately today, Smashwords announced a new version of the web site optimized for the Safari web browser used by the iPhone and iPod Touch. Simply by visiting the site, iPhone and iPod Touch users are automatically served pages optimized for their device.

iPhone and iPod Touch users can now easily browse the online bookstore's growing catalog of independently published ebook authors. All Smashwords books are available DRM-free and multi-format, including the increasingly popular epub format used by Stanza and the .mobi format readable by the Amazon Kindle.
