Born on the wrong side of the iron curtain, I lived in that world long enough to relish the freedom I found in England and later in Canada where I settled. Growing up with two native languages gave me a stereoscopic vision of the world and human nature. My thirst for knowledge led me to acquire several degrees, all of them useful. A former conference interpreter and philosophy professor, I now earn my bread as a veterinarian and thank fortune for living at a time when the likes of me are no longer burned as witches. Valerie Albemarle is my pen name.
What is your writing process?
My first draft is always full of gushing, repetitions, and redundancies that get trimmed away later like excess plaster from a statue.
How do you approach cover design?
I like to use a photo I've taken myself, often specifically for that book, and let a professional designer do the rest.
