  • Diaballein on July 25, 2020

This novella moves at a fast clip, things keep moving forward, fears unloaded onto the characters. Possession, madness, fire and fear. It's all there. The magic of this story is in the two characters, and the Diaballein. They all have a reason to be where they are, a reason to fight to the end. I loved this story and eagerly await the next one.
  • The Old Woman & the Mad Horse - Case File for: the Big Three Mining Investigations on July 25, 2020

A country town, dilapidated, a perfect place to hide. Or is it? Halla finds the country isn't as quiet as she'd been led to believe, and the locals are strange indeed. She wants peace, and to get it, she has to tidy things up a bit. With help from the local cop and his daughter, and the mad horse (let's not forget him, poor bugger), the story gets straightened out. Who can you trust these days? A short novel at a good clip, almost in the style of Ludlum but Australian, and the only bodies dropped are by the bad guys. I loved this story set in rural Victoria, Australia.
  • Fears on July 25, 2020

Two quick stories. I had to check my windows were closed. Wonderful scary tales.
  • Not On The Cards on July 25, 2020

An urban fantasy short novel set in Melbourne markets, a place I know well. I was totally involved in Chiri's story, her needs and desperation, her desire to believe despite the cards warning her against rash actions. She has no choice. This is one of those stories I couldn't put down once I started it. Excellent.
  • Who Will Rule Magic? Kraken, Dragon, Cat vs. Kangaroo, Cockatoo, Crocodile on July 25, 2020

The funniest thing happened. I read this story a while ago, then read it again recently. I loved it then, laughed, got fully invested in the situation, so like what really happens in life and politics of all flavours. But ... Now it reads like a warning of what is actually happening. Back to the story, though. Cocky, the main character, fights to have a say in the Council, but the haughty cat has designs on ruling the animal world. The trouble is that it's not just animals, but all creatures, even the very small. Beware.
