LIGHT AFFLICTIONS is a character driven, 43,000 word novella that examines a generation of people who descended from a fascinating group of relatives dating back to 1793 and supports the suggestion that the past is always present. It is a work of fiction that is loosely based on the many letters that have been preserved by her family for generations.

This is a real page turner. The characters are well developed and make strong (although often not advisable) choices. I found myself rooting for the protagonist, Jaci and hoping all would end well for her. The setting, Los Angeles - "City of Dreams"- was a perfect fit for the plot. As the novel suggests dreams can often turn into nightmares. This is a fast and compelling read and I highly recommend it.
