I seem to be in the minority here, I was incredibly disappointed with the ending to this story. I will certainly NOT be reading this to my niece who I downloaded it for. This could have taken a great turn and taught a wonderful lesson, but it fell short. I kept hoping for a lesson on respecting all of God's creatures, teaching Aine that no matter what disruptions he causes her brother is special and loved by God. And not just because he's "gifted" but because he's created in the likeness and image of God, as is she. I kept waiting for Aine to learn that her brother isn't simply a nuisance to be 'handled' or 'taken care of'. That would've made a great Catholic story. Instead, this story just reinforced Aine's selfish behavior to the point that the entire family joined in. The Eucharist, is the Body and Blood of Christ, that's what First Communion...EVERY communion is about, Jesus. The sacrifice He made and makes at every Mass. So, wouldn't it have been more prudent to teach Aine that sometimes we need to make sacrifices too, albeit, much, much smaller than His? But a sacrifice nonetheless. I would much rather be reading a story like that to my niece than one about finding a way to get what you want, even if it's selfish. I'm very sorry, I hate to be so negative, and I hope the others are better. I really was hoping this would be good, and I'm holding out hope that the others will be.
