Adrian Russell

Biography

About Adrian Russell – Author and International Novelist...

Adrian Russell was born in London, but as a young baby his parents moved him out of London to Hertfordshire, England and then to a small village in Essex, where he grew up until he moved back to London to begin his working career.

Adrian’s hobbies include Horse Riding and he’s been on safari on the plains of Africa on horseback and on the beaches of Ireland…both times with his daughter. On the plains of Africa they were following wildebeest, giraffe, antelope and the elusive rhino and many other of Africa’s fantastic wild creatures.

Scuba diving and the love of animals are two of his other passions. Adrian Russell particularly loves diving with sharks, dolphins and turtles. He also has a love of small creatures too, like Seahorses. One of his favourite dives is in Barbados where on one dive he counted over 30 seahorses.

Adrian also has a real love of whales too and has still to see the magnificent Blue Whale. Having seen other whales, whilst looking for the one that eludes him, has taken him on some wonderful travels around the world.

By the way another one of his passions is travel…being in wild and exotic places helps Adrian with his creativity for writing his books.

When did Adrian Russell begin his writing career?
Adrian came to writing later in life and began writing his first novel when he was in his late forties. He finished writing his debut novel whilst he was going through cancer treatment. He used his writing to distract him from the fearful thoughts that are experienced when going through this disease.

Adrian Russell moved to live near the New Forest and Bournemouth, which is where he began his writing career. This is where he lives with his beautiful wife Jo and their dog Missie and cat Lilly.

‘I love to write and do most of my writing when I’m in a far away land…like Barbados or a small Greek Island in the Mediterranean. I love to spend my time exploring new characters and disappearing into a fantasy world, in between spending time on the water sailing or wind surfing and with my lovely wife Jo.’ Adrian Russell

Smashwords Interview

How do you approach cover design?
I think the most important aspect of the cover design is the image. As they say 'An picture paints a thousand words.' I know when I'm looking for a good book to read, its usually the cover picture that grabs me to begin with.

For Nothing Left But Fear I chose the image of two blood-stained hands to reflect the gut-wrenching aspect of the novel.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown...this was a real page turner for me and I struggled to put it down. I love the way he does cliffhanger chapter endings, which is where I learnt the technique from for my writing.

Watchers by Dean Koontz...I loved this book, which was recommended to me by a friend in a bar. She told me it was a great book and by an author I hadn't heard of at the time. I have to agree with her, I could not put it down and loved the story line. Since then I've read many more of his books and love him as an author.

The Fog by James Herbert...I read this along time ago and remember it being one of those books that made me feel uncomfortable. I always wanted to achieve this feeling with my books, and having read some of the reviews, I think I may have achieved this.

Faces of Fear by John Saul...I have now read a few of Saul's books and really enjoy his writing style. With every single book of his, including this one I could not put down and was gripped from the get-go.

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown...I enjoyed this book of Dan Brown's probably a little more than The Da Vinci Code. It was a real page turner and an extremely gripping read.

Whats your dream as an author
What is your dream as an author? After watching Naked And Afraid on The Discovery Channel whilst we were in Barbados in December 2016, Adrian Russell saw the similarity of this program with the premise of his novel Nothing Left But Fear. Adrian Russell's dream is to have his novel made into a movie. After seeing there is a big interest in people being naked and alone on the African Savannah (or other places in the wild), it made his dream of this look a bit more like a reality.
