Lia Weaver is left to take care of her family farm and two younger siblings when her parents are murdered in the woods one night by Watchers. The inhabitants of Frost live in fear of the Watchers – monsters who come out only at night. At the beginning of the book Lia’s top priority is to take care of her family and keep them safe from the Watchers. Then she meets Gabe and everything changes. Love blossoms and secrets abound. I loved this story. It was very different from other dystopian books I’ve read. Ellison’s writing is very lyrical and enchanting. I loved her descriptions and sensory details. Gabe is an endearing hero and Lia is a strong character. I loved them both. This a delightful story and I can’t wait to read more from this author! ”

I had the privilege of receiving a free copy of this book from the author and I’m so lucky I did! Reign of Blood is an urban fantasy set in Vegas. The end of the world came in the form of a virus that killed off all the humans. All that remains are wild vampires. The only humans left are April, her mom and brother. Then April’s brother and mom dissapear and April begins her quest to find them. I loved the way Purdy used words to set the mood for this book. It had a very dark feel to it. Her sensory details were right on and her descriptions transported me to April’s world. I’ve been to Vegas only once before but I loved how I could picture the casinos and the strip. April was a very likeable character. Sure, she was rough around the edges and really tough, but that only made me like her more. I love female characters who don’t need a guy to rescue them. However, the guy in this book is one I would love to be rescued by! Rye is a true hero. He is sweet, yet tough and very good looking. I love the romance between the two. Most of this book I read on the edge of my seat, scarcely able to breathe. So many fighting scenes, so much action and a lot of suspense! I loved this book. It sort of reminded me of Hollowland by Amanda Hocking which was a book I loved as well. I give this book 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone looking for an action packed read!
