Barbara Strickland

Biography

Barbara Strickland is currently living in Sydney and finding it a big change from the hot and humid north. More changes coming including a chance to teach in the area she loves, and hopefully a print copy of her romance. Teaching English as a second language coincides with her love of travel. Fortunate enough, to have three grown-up children who encourage her to express herself, she is free to follow her dreams. More travel one day but at present she is more likely found working on her Unexpected Series where she combine her love of romance with the places she has seen. She has four ambitions, to publish her books, travel, learn to speak at least three other languages, and own a cat with blue eyes. (And a dog but has to find a bigger place to live first)

Smashwords Interview

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love the idea of being able to be the decision maker in the process. I get to decide how and when my series will happen. It becomes a more satisfying process for both myself and my readers.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I am a reader and I love the world created by the writers I follow and have followed during my life. it has filled my time, my heart when things weren't great, and has fostered a better understanding of people and their actions. I love being able to do the same for others. But, even more I love the freedom to have a voice, to use my experience to help others to see things differently through my characters.
I am also a romantic and believe we need more love in the world so I decided I would create characters that care not just for each other but those around them too.

Smashwords book reviews by Barbara Strickland

  • The Fairy Tale Bride on March 08, 2017

On the whole it was a very enjoyable read and Miranda was a very sweet and captivating heroine. The book became very slow and repetitive in the best part of the middle section and lost the hero some credibility and likability... It did pick up momentum towards the end but then became an almost information over load. Too many other things were happening as well as reaching an understanding for our couple. With some cutting down it would have maintained a good pace and helped the flow for the reader.
  • Five on March 08, 2017

I struggled with the inconsistencies of this book. Having read a lot of YA I found the characters in this book held very little appeal. it was too busy to develop individual characters properly and left them very two-dimensional. It's a shame because it had some great ideas but reviews are subjective and others may love this.
  • A Job From Hell (Ancient Legends Book 1) on March 08, 2017

This had some good elements but I found the main character very flat. The story line was often inconsistent and the male lead not at all appealing. it did have some bits of humour that saved it just enough to get to the end.
  • Blood Debt on March 13, 2017

This did have a nice little twist to it and Camille unlike a lot of YA heroines was young but thoughtful. She wasn't silly and it kept the story flowing nicely. I did find a few inconsistencies but not enough to stop me enjoying the book.
