Amy Wax

I am a 21st Century Poet trying to make my way in this world. Not easy when you have an analogue mind in a digital world. With over 10,000 poems written I imagine I'll be doing this for a long time to come. After all, I've been writing since I was in the 6th grade. At this point, it's in my blood. Thanks to Smashwords, I'm realizing my life-long goal of becoming a published writer! Payment is merely icing on the cake! (Oh, but I do like to have my cake & eat it too!)

Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
I still remember my first writing assignment. Forgiving me a moment while I give a shout-out to my original writing mentor: Mrs. Mary Manos, then 6th grade Language Arts teacher at Middlebranch Middle School, Canton, Ohio. She was/is/always shall be the person I credit with my passion for poetry. A simple task of writing a poem during Sixth Grade Camp (Outdoor Education at Leesville Lake). It was the last week of May, 1979. Typically rainy in Northeast Ohio, I remember standing on the deck overlooking the lake in the pouring rain, our last day of camp before returning home. I'd procrastinated this project all week as I wasn't looking forward to the "lame", "boring" task of writing a poem-like many of my classmates. But as I watched the rainfall, I let my mind go and the poem wrote itself. The poem Rain of course is the opening poem of Poetess. It has become etched forever in my mind, heart and soul. It was one of my first "life defining moments".
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My eyes opening. Each day is a new beginning. A new opportunity. A rebirth.

As a fan of the BDSM genre I was quite impressed with the detail that was included in The Princess and the Dragon. Look forward to reading more by Ms. Gaylord!
