Biko Dylan is a lover of life and all it has to bring. "Explore and express," is a statement that he holds dear to his heart.
Exploration of the soul, of different areas, of different people, of different art forms and beliefs is what he is about.
Expressing his soul, the atmosphere of different areas, the uniqueness of different people and beliefs is what he does. Although at the core of all of that- is love.
It's a love that can be felt in each piece of work he commits himself to.
Musician, poet, writer, human and lover are five words one can use to answer the question,
"WHO IS BIKO DYLAN?"
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Kempton Park, Johannesburg. I'm a firm believer that my area, amongst other factors, molded me into the creative that I am. At first glance my neighbourhood seems 'dark' and bad but upon observation one notices the beauty of it. I feel like my writings connect to readers in the same way. I remember writing a story in primary school, it was a paranormal story and my mother saw it. She asked me about it, I could see that she was shocked at what I wrote but she still supported me. My whole family supports me. That's something I will never take for granted. I grew up in a house that supported my dreams and I feel like that is my biggest influence: My family.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
For a very long time, writing has been my form of therapy. It allowed me to not only escape the harshness of reality but to find and create myself. Once I realised that there are many people who I relate to and who relate to me I began sharing my work. The joy of sharing is something that, to me, never fades.
