Andrea Carter

Andrea Carter was born in Quesnel, a small town in the interior of British Columbia, Canada. As a child, she broke into a neighbour's house just to feel the keys of their typewriter and maybe that should have been a clue. But she’s a slow-starter. Decades later — after four children, writing for the sake of it, a few published articles in magazines, chapter introductions in cookbooks, a stint as editor of a lifestyle magazine in Spain, and many more years working as a graphic designer and illustrator — she finally this, her first novel, and her second one is well underway.

Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
I started writing just for myself when my daughters were young. It stayed in the drawer. Then I had the opportunity to write introductory chapters for a Dinners of the World cookbook, followed by interviews that were published in local newspapers and finally I became an editor for a small Spanish lifestyle magazine. But things really got rolling when my husband and I moved to South America in 1999. That's when I began writing fiction because there were simply too many stories to ignore.
What's the story behind your latest book?
After a major earthquake heaves a washed-up rock star into the path of a lonely caretaker in Santiago de Chile's General Cemetery, she decides they are destined to be together and in true South America fashion, the best laid plans come undone. It's a humorous and unconventional love story sprinkled with magic realism and filled with eccentric characters in bizarre situations.
