After reading the reviews for Blood Stained Lives, I was excited to get the chance to read and review it. I must say, first and foremost, that the novel gives action, revenge, romance, humor, and last but certainly not least, a powerful package of a unique cast of characters that have their personalities wonderfully portrayed. And, the relationship between Namon and Aluana..... :) wow! Unlike the onslaught of Vampire/Werewolf novels that are flooding the market in recent years, Blood Stained Lives creates a world much bigger. It is truly a novel for every realm of urban fantasy reader without the rehashed, overused characters and plot lines. If you are like me, looking for something different, you will certainly get it with this novel! With that said, though, I have to admit that I, personally, struggled with reading the novel. Not because of the story, but because of the technical writing structure. A very big rule in the writing world is 'show don't tell', and in my opinion, the book throughout fell short with showing exposition to the characters emotional thoughts and the events of the story. Instead the events and feelings are told, not shown, giving a very detailed feel like a screen play, as if to say 'then this happens, then this happens, then this happens'. In the end, however, aside from a few grammar errors and show don't tell errors, Ron Griffin gives a fun, exciting, and engaging urban fantasy novel and I can't wait to see more from him and watch him grow as a writer.
