What's the story behind your latest book?
The Detour is a collection of my poems I have written over the years. I write poetry regularly. I write it to get ideas down, or use it as a game to play around with words. It acts as a way to rev up my brain and get it working. The book was conceived fairly recently. I was trying for the longest time to figure out how to link all of these pieces. Then, it came to me! They could all be a part of some sort of road trip. A crazy road trip! So I began thinking about the chapters and that was where the real work began.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes. The first book I remember reading was, A Wocket in My Pocket by Dr, Seuss. It was in Kindergarten. I remember the simple story and the rhyme scheme. I loved how entertaining it was and the impact of the words; so few that they were created so much enjoyment. I realized then words were powerful tools that can be used create different worlds and bring life to the imagination.
