Barbara Dean Aliaga

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 50’s and 60’s. I entered the convent in 1963 and delighted in teaching elementary school. I like to brag that my first class held 54-second-graders and I taught them to sing in 3-part harmony because I didn’t know that they couldn’t. I am always grateful for the foundation I received during the five years I remained in the convent.

I have a BA in English/Drama and have always been gifted with a positive spirit. I married in 1970 to a then returning Vietnam Medic Veteran who previously found himself part of “Operation Peter Pan” in the 60’s from Cuba. We fell in love at first sight and are enjoying life now on Camano Island. We enjoy our one son, our daughter-in-law, and our two extraordinarily fine grandsons.

I have worked as an executive director of The Harman Eye Clinic in Arlington, Washington and have been with the firm since 1989. I am proficient at running a company, but my joy comes from encouraging staff members to reach constantly for their potential -- to live happy lives!

In the 1980’s I published three technical books through International Self-Publish Press: “Start And Run A Profitable Home Typing Business,” “Keyboarding for Kids,” and “Learn to Type Fast”. During that time I also wrote a book about TMJ, called “TMJ, Breaking the Cycle of Pain,” and a little children’s story, “Michael And The Acorn Necklace.” Actually, “William Pardon Tankerfield the Third and A Google of Wishes” was first begun in the 1980s.

I am passionate about educating, exploring new thinking, painting and writing. Creativity is the air I enjoy so much that I can stay up all night lost in doing what I am doing right now.

I am available for readings and speaking engagements. Write to me through email -- Barbara at Artsali dot com

Smashwords Interview

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I'm the curious type. I want to see what is going to happen on this fine day. I want to send out good ideas and also see how it plays out in this day's life. I enjoy creating an atmosphere of adventure, even if I don't leave the house. The imagination is a wonderful thing and it is what is ready for me each day. Yes. That's is my motivation and my plan each day!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Now that I am a communications and writing coach, I spend a bit of time chatting with people through my website and blog or talking on the phone. I try to create digital paintings weekly to keep up my skills.... and it's fun! I spend a couple of days in Seattle weekly learning from and sharing with my two grandsons and their parents. It's the best! I'm a daydreamer, so whenever I'm working around the house, I'm playing with better ways to explain our opportunities to lead satisfying and happy lives. I also spend a fair amount of time, studying. I especially like Khan Academy, a free on-line website that is dedicated to education. I love to learn new ways of thinking about life. And, of course, i find time to sit and chat about life with my husband every day!
